This, therefore, is Mathematics; she reminds you of the invisible form of the soul; she gives life to her own discoveries; she awakens the mind and purifies the intellect; she brings light to our intrinsic ideas; she abolishes oblivion and ignorance which is ours by birth. —Proclus, c. 450

I guess that Mathematics is a woman, well, at least according to Proclus. Yay women!! Interesting.

Catch you guys later, must study for an exam.

A process engineer repaired his own heart!

Yup, you read it correctly! I did say that a process engineer repaired his own heart!

I was browsing some of the talks on TED’s website and the following video, “Tal Golesworthy: How I repaired my own heart,” caught my attention. And so, I watched it (not the whole thing as I am on campus about to leave for Calculus class)!

People are doing amazing things these days!

How could a process engineer, not even a biomedical one, repair his own heart? Well, it happened, you guys! He brought together a team of individuals from various disciplines and designed a plastic valve that would replace the real aorta valve. If compared to the actual process done by the doctors for his particular disease, his technique:

1.) Takes two hours only as opposed to six hours

2.) No antibiotic therapy necessary post operation

3.) No anticoagulation drugs to be taken after the surgery

4.) No need for heart/lung bypass

5.) No need to cool the entire body

Wow! This is very inspiring. When he was told by the doctors that he needed an extremely complicated heart surgery, he did not jump at the opportunity to have his heart repaired by them. He thought about the process and the quality of life obtained after the surgery. He did not like it for the thought of being on anticoagulation drugs (by the way, which come with side effects) for as long as he lived did not appeal to him at all. He disliked the process as well for he has to be under for at least six hours while the doctors performed heart/lung bypass and cooled his body temperature. In addition, he hated that if he were to go with the doctor’s current “gold standard” technique, he would have to be dependent on the anticoagulation medication and as well as antibiotic therapy for as long as he lives. With this in mind, he set out to repair his own heart with assistance from a team that he brought together. Together, they developed their own plastic valve that does not require for any of the above listed things to happen! Isn’t that cool?!!

This story motivates and inspires to do and be better! I would like to be able to do something excellent that improves public health. Just gotta keep learning and practicing till then!

Re: The Sprit Catches You and You Fall Down

I have just finished reading the above book. It is truly a very sad story!

To be honest, I did not actually read every single word in the book as I skipped some chapters that I couldn’t get myself to read, such as the background info of the Hmong people. (This tells me that I will have to start reading history books, to get used to reading histories!)

Has anyone of you read this book? It is terrifying! Regardless of what you might think of me later, let me say the following: After having read about Lia Lee (the child on the front cover), I am thankful for a lot of things in my life. I mean, think about it. We do not appreciate the blessing and fortunes that we have till we come across someone or someone’s story whose life was (or is) much harder than the ones we have lead or currently leading.

Let us forget about the the one who is actually going through difficult times, but think of the ones who have to watch their beloved ones suffer! Specifically, a mother who has to watch her child fighting to survive, how awful it must be for her to see her child that she gave birth to suffering from severe medical problems?! Just try to put yourself in her shoes (not literally) and think/feel from her perspective! It is agonizing!

I am not sure whether I would like to read the book again mainly due to the bad memories that this book brings back.

I would love to know about the feelings of those who have read this particular book! I am itching to discuss about it with the ones that have read it.

Oh, on a brighter note, I finally went to the library and got that Dicken’s novel (Great Expectations). I seriously need to read something that is light after having read the above book.

Well, happy reading and writing, y’all!

Disappointed, but it’s ok!

Hello, my darling readers,

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to go to the library as planned to check out Dicken’s novel!

I planned to get to the library before my 1:30p class but I got stuck at home writing a paper for my research project. After the 1:30p class, I had to attend a meeting with my team for a project we are working on for one of my classes. The meeting lasted longer than I expected! After the meeting ended, I got home only to eat something and to resume my research paper that is due tonight. I have still got a long way to go!!

Hopefully, I will be able to get that novel tomorrow after my classes end at 11a. I am super excited to read from an actual book! Ebooks are great but not as satisfying as holding a real book, don’t you agree?! Such a pleasure just turning the pages in a book!!

Well, guys, I have to continue working on my paper.

Happy reading and writing, y’all!

Yours truly,

Pomegranate Lover

Hello everyone,

Long time, no see! Don’t blame me, blame my studies!!! Seriously!

Anyway, hope you are all doing good!

I am not sure why but especially when finals are near, I pick up a book and start reading! Since my finals are 2-3 weeks away, I have indeed picked up a book (not literally, ebook) and started reading it. The book: The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. I am enjoying it but I will have to admit that I sometimes get lost with keeping tracking of names and places mentioned. Its pretty sad! Have you guys heard of Lia Lee? Google it!

Also, I am on book hunt, well, hunting for another book. The one that I am reading now gets a little boring at times and so am looking for another to keep me interested. I am not even sure what I am looking for! Maybe, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. However, I would like to read it from an actual book, not an ebook. The libraries are closed due to holidays and so I will have to wait till Monday to get it. I just hope that I will have enough time to actually go to the library, search for it, and get it checked out. I know,  it IS  a SHAME that I still have not read this particular book!!!!! I hope to change that soon! I will definitely start and finish reading it before the end of 2016.

I have to get back to studying now!

I wil bug you all later!

Happy reading and writing, y’all!

Yours truly,

I Only Want You When It’s 2 AM — Thought Catalog

Interesting and very confusing!

PolinaI only want you when it’s 2 AM, never when it’s 2 PM. I only want you when I have to walk home alone at night and I’m scared of the way the world has become. I only want you when I watch a creepy episode of How To Get Away With Murder so I…

Move forward!

What is with time? It keeps on moving regardless of everything and everyone. It does its’ job and never ever waits for anyone to catch up. Why can’t it ever be more considerate about those like me, who fail to maintain steady relationships (not with opposite sex) with people? Why can’t ever go slow in good moments and fast in, you know, bad and terrible events? It is just not fair.

I think I should be more like the time. To keep on moving regardless of what has happened to me and my family. Never stop for anyone or anything. Just move, move, move forward. Past is past and I should not let it bother me in the future or even in the present. Pick what you need to survive in the present/future from the past, but don’t let it decide your life. Take over because it is your life. Live in the moment, enjoy it, if you can, savor the good moments. Life is a bitch (sorry, first time using it) but you gotta ride it no matter what.

According to Hindu scriptures, you might not be born as a human in your next life. Who knows? Maybe we will be born as a stone, bird, or whatever. So we better enjoy this life of ours while it lasts! Who knows where we will be after the end of our life cycle, right?

Enjoy your life, my dear humans!

I am aware that I got off track from where I started. Sorry, that is just how my mind is now, jumping uncontrollably. Right now, I am very very bored.

Well, talk to you guys later! Have fun doing whatever it is you are doing! 😀
